Casita, - Sober Living Program provides a sober environment for women who need additional time to reintegrate with society.

  Primary Treatment

The Primary Treatment Program houses 38 women at any one time who stay with us from 30 to 90 days. During this period of recovery the women work closely with a counselor to better understand their personal needs, goals, and progress. Counselors strive to identify high-risk situations aside from the obvious alcoholism and substance abuse. Anorexia, bulimia, depression, physical, mental and sexual child abuse issues all have the potential to because regression or relapse upon completion of program. These issues are addressed using outside licensed therapists in one-on-one counseling sessions. Pacific Clinics, Passageways, Los Angeles County Mental Health, and Living Proof Recovery Staff are just a few of the network facilities Casa engages in helping the women with these issues.

Anger management, parenting, relapse prevention, and domestic violence prevention are also an integral part of treatment. Groups are facilitated by our on staff, certified counselors and by the staff of Haven House a community home for abused women and children. Our residents are also offered HIV/AIDS testing, counseling and education through Alta Med Assessment Center and are referred to AIDS Service center if continuum of care is needed for HIV/AIDS. The women learn (or re-learn) basic life-skills such as nutrition, cooking, physical exercise and decision-making. They learn to participate in their own recovery through mandatory 12-step meetings, group, and social activities.

Families are invited to begin healing right alongside our women residents. They participate in discussion groups, activities, lectures, speakers, and sharing. These programs are mandatory for visitors of Casa residents. Family dynamics, communication, trust, addiction as a family disease, and Al-anon are all aspects of the Family Counseling and Education Program.

  Outpatient Program

The Outpatient Program is a treatment experience designed to give substance abusers the knowledge, structure, and support to allow them to achieve abstinence from drugs and alcohol, and initiate a long-term program of recovery. Outpatient clients are assessed upon admittance to determine areas of specific need and the groups they will attend.

  Casita - Sober Living

Casita, the Sober Living Program, is for those women who come to us with their lives more shattered than others. Women who find themselves unprepared for immediate reintegration into the larger community are offered the opportunity to remain at Casa for up to 12 additional months. During this time they look for and begin employment, or continue their education. Casita residents also receive supportive counseling from our staff, and continue to participate in, group and twelve-step meetings. This program houses 17 (24 as of April 2003) women at any one time.

The women in the Casita Program are referred to the State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, Pasadena City College Occupational Training Center and Women at Work for help in job placement and training. To assist those women for whom literacy is a problem, Casa has formed a partnership with Pasadena Reads. This program provides reading assessment and tutoring on an individual basis. In addition, the staff at Pasadena Reads assists residents and graduates with GED studies and job resume writing.
